This is the “romance” theme from Dragon Age by Big Aubrey. I haven’t played the game in ages, but I kept singing the really high pitched to my friend who just played it. I thought I imagined the high pitched bit, so I watched the romance scenes to see if it really existed, but it always cut off before the music could go mental.

Five weeks later, I found it. I didn’t imagine it.

Ghost Love Score

I just listened to Nightwish’s Ghost Love Score for the first time in a few years. What a song. I just put it on again.

The sitar. The oboe. That clarinet. Oh god.

Day 15- Put your iPod on shuffle: First 10 songs that play

1. The World/Inferno Friendship Society - Let’s Steal Everything

Haven’t listened to much by these guys, but it seems like a pretty rad track so far. I’m a sucker for accordions.

2. Finntroll - Varg Timmen (Hedningarna Cover)

Finntroll are pretty cool. They’re a great band to see live as well. Haven’t listened to them a lot in the last few years, but despite being a cover, this song is cool.

3. Frightened Rabbit - Living in Colour

A Scottish folk rock group that have really blown up here in the past few years. It seems like everyone I know really likes them. I can’t say this is my favourite song off The Winter of Mixed Drinks album, but it’s okay.

4. Nevershoutnever! - I Love You More Than You Will Ever Know

This kid plays some nice acoustic guitar tunes. I enjoy listening to him on a rainy day, and this song is a good one.

5. Stormy Atmosphere - Fifth Season

This is one of those songs that comes up on shuffle, and you just wonder to yourself ‘what the hell is this?’. According to last.fm, Stormy Atmosphere are a progressive art metal act — whatever that means. I’m now just over two minutes into the song, and it is sounding like a heavier version of 90’s Rush with a female vocalist. They’re are Israeli, so maybe they’ll have some cool folk instrumentals like Orphaned Land…

6. My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade

I like their second album, but I haven’t really listened to The Black Parade. This song definitely gets better as it goes on. Beginning is a bit naff.

7. Kanye West - Hey Mama

I adore this track. It’s an amazing mashup.

8. Stars - The Beginning after the End

A great introduction to a pretty solid album.

9. Foo Fighters - No Way Back

I quite like Foo Fighters, but I won’t say I’m a serious fan. This song is alright. Typical Foo by numbers.

10. Take a Worm for a Walk Week - Helmet Spew

Saw these guys in Glasgow a couple of years ago. I haven’t listened to them in a while, though.

The Fall of Troy - Act One, Scene One

The Fall of Troy are a very special band for me. Like a lot of fans, their second album Doppelgänger is the best album they produced in their career. I started listening listen to TFOT in my first year of undergrad in 2005, and I was mesmerized by the intricate guitar work and how epic the songs were with just three young guys.

This song kind of encapsulates a younger, inexperienced, and naive version of me that has long since been replaced and improved. I guess this can be said for the band themselves considering they could never produce anything else that their fans deemed worthy. For a lot of people, Doppelgänger could never be surpassed, but I think the guys, like me, just changed so much; this album definitely came from a place that can never be returned to.

RIP TFOT.
